HELP! 21st birthday gifts for an intellectual?

I was going to suggest book tokens but since he is into philosophy I can recommend Bertrand Russell's A History of Western Philosophy which is (to my mind) the book that every aspiring philosopher should have on their shelf. When I got into philosophy years ago this effectively became my core reader and syllabus as Bertrand takes you through a really comprehensive overview of the history of philosophical thought and his writing style is very entertaining to someone who is into this sort of thing. Since then I have had two opportunities to give copies of this book to others and in both cases they have loved it.
